We're heading to the Manchester Acoustic Blues Festival!

Wednesday, 17th June 2015

We’re attending the Manchester Acoustic Blues Festival on Monday to pick up our ‘Best European Blues Festival’ award!

Taking place in Salford, the Manchester Acoustic Blues Festival or MABS, is a two day celebration of the UK’s best blues talent and also draws in some of the leading roots blues music artistes from all over the world.

Bluesman Mike Francis, Ryan McGarvey, Peter Price, Mal Gibson and Colne Blues’ Festival favourite Kyla Brox will be amongst those performing at the MABS Festival.

This accolade sees The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival retain its title as Europe’s Best Blues Festival for the second year running.

Voting was open to anyone but it was the blues loving public who voted in their tens of thousands who cast us as the best blues festival in Europe.

Devised in 1981, the European Blues Awards are widely referred to as the biggest genre accolade outside the USA. Representatives from Pendle Leisure Trust will attend the awards ceremony to pick up the award at the ceremony taking place at the Manchester Acoustic Blues Festival (MABS) on Monday 22nd June.

Other nominees included Le Buis Blues Festival in France and the Notodden Blues Festival in Norway, a festival which attracts in excess of 20,000 visitors and has hosted the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, Robin Trower. Buddy Guy and John Mayall.

The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival gets bigger each year, with last year’s festival again attracting blues fans from all over the UK and even further afield. Attracting the biggest names in blues music, Colne’s R and B Festival envelops the town’s musical soul throughout the duration of the August bank holiday weekend and has put the town on the map.

This latest award caps what is a fantastic achievement for the festival, the town and the fans who have all made the last 26 years a real success story.

Festival organiser, Alison Goode, said: “We are absolutely delighted and extremely honoured to have won this award again, which officially recognises the Festival as the best in Europe!

“We would especially like to thank the thousands of Blues fans who travel to Colne year after year and keep the Festival alive.”
