FESTIVAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCE EXHIBITION (AND MEET THE ARTIST)
In a first for the blues festival in Colne – Pete Marsh, the festival’s artist in residence – will showcase his unique style of documenting artists playing live on stage.
Pete will exhibit a selection of artworks ‘captured’ during the 2017 & 2018 blues festivals in Colne, alongside a myriad of his sketchbooks. Artist browsers will form part of the exhibit, allowing music lovers to view many more lino cuts and artworks of Pete’s ‘live’ work.
The exhibition will be in place in the Muni venue for the duration of the 2019 festival.
Pete will be on hand (when he’s not sketching artists in venues other than the Muni), to chat to. Muni audiences will also catch a glimpse of Pete at work, while he sketches artists playing on this stage.
“My motivation is live music performance, as it is the atmosphere which interests me… so I only paint gigs I’ve attended. A finished painting is usually constructed from a montage of different photographs from the same gig, plus visual memories along with the influence of my live sketches.
Working as Artist-in-Residence at The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival excites me because the line-up is impressive and varied. The festival not only gives me opportunities to produce more work of familiar faces, but also fresh work of musicians I have yet to commit to canvas”.
The artist exhibition forms part of a series of festival special events.
