APPLY TO PLAY THIS YEARS FESTIVAL VIA JESSICA FOXLEY STAGES

Jessica Foxley Stages has teamed up with us, The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival, to offer young, under-the-radar acts the opportunity to play the main stages at the festival this summer.

Four bands/artists will be chosen, in total, to each play 1 slot. The judges are seeking acts with a ‘blues leaning’, with originality, creativity, technical ability, musical compatibility to the festival, and entertainment value being at the core of their choices. The Jessica Foxley Stages’ focus is on supporting musicians up to the age of 25. As a minimum, the lead musician in a band must be age 25 or under on 31st August 2019.

In addition to this one of the four chosen festival acts will be nominated to be part of this year’s UK Blues Challenge on Saturday 14th September 2019 at the Bluefunk Rhythm & Blues Club in Poynton.

See the link below to apply to play, and for more details. Applications close Wednesday 20th March.

More on Jessica Foxley Stages:

Jessica Foxley Stages was set up in 2010 in Jessica’s memory, to provide high profile performance opportunities for young musicians. Now in its 10th year, the project has gone from strength-to-strength and attracts young musicians of a very high standard from across the UK.

This year, they will invite four outstanding, but as yet under-the-radar, young acts to play sets on the two main festival stages on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival.

The ’emerging’ young talent will rub shoulders with the superb line-up of professional acts.

Margaret Foxley (chair of the Jessica Foxley Stages judges panel) explains further. “Bringing together young talent from across the UK and giving them a high profile performance opportunity is what our project is all about. Our aim is to create an experience which will not only give our young musicians unrivalled exposure but will hopefully lead to other great opportunities”.

Paul Foxley, who administers the project for Jessica Foxley Music Projects, added “The Jessica Foxley Stages project has blossomed to become an important and vibrant part of one of the UK’s finest blues festivals. Our message to young musicians is that – in the same way that our project has succeeded – with hard work and determination on their part and a little support and encouragement from elsewhere, there may be exciting new horizons for them to explore.”

Robert J Hunter, who played the 2017 festival, explains how Jessica Foxley Stages helped him… “Jessica Foxley Stages kick-started our career. We had been under the radar on the blues scene until we were offered the chance to perform at The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival 2017. We have achieved so much since then”.

This is the 10th year that the Jessica Foxley Foundation has been involved with the festival.

Margaret concludes “When we set up Jessica Foxley Music Projects we had no real idea where it would take us. Jessica Foxley Stages has proved to be an exciting voyage of discovery. Our family take a keen interest in the careers of the musicians who participate in this project.

On reaching the milestone of our 10th year of involvement with the festival, we decided to dig into our archives for some statistics about Jessica Foxley Stages:

• More than 60 bands have performed on the festival’s main stages under the Jessica Foxley banner
• Over half have been invited back to perform as mainstream acts at the festival in subsequent years
• In 2010, all our bands were local, but we now attract bands from all corners of the UK
• Each year since 2017, we have had the privilege of nominating one of our bands to take part in the UK Blues Challenge

It is a constant source of inspiration to us that, not only do we get to meet some wonderfully talented young musicians, but we also get to meet some incredibly nice young people!”
